LED fluorescent tube are among the most popular and versatile lighting solutions available today. They are replacing the fluorescent tubes widely with the advantages and benefits. Compared to the fluorescent tubes, it has too many advances and reasons to use them without hesitation. The LED tubes are the ideal lighting solutions to replace the existing fluorescent tubes or use in the next lighting fixture solutions.
The LED tube light has more than 10+ advantages than the fluorescent tube light, the LED tube light becomes the idea replacement of fluorescent tube light.
Contents
Chapter 1: What is LED tube light?
LED Tube light is the tube light that utilizes the most advanced LEDs technology to replace the traditional fluorescent tube light. There are T5 and T8 LED tubes light, but the T8 is the most popular LED tube light. LED tubes are sometimes also referred to as ‘LED fluorescent tubes’ because it works the same function as the fluorescent tube and used in the same tube light fixtures. But it doesn’t contain the fluorescent tube components except the tube pins and cover.
LED tube construction
The LED tube is consist of cover, housing, LED board, LED driver, end caps and pins.

Chapter 2: LED tube advantages?
LED tube lights are energy efficient. They are up to 80% more efficient than traditional lighting such as fluorescent and incandescent lights. 95% of the energy in LEDs is converted into light and only 5% is wasted as heat. Using less energy means the demand from power plants decreases there reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As compared to fluorescent tubes, the most important advantages of LED tubes are energy efficiency and long service life. They are also safer due to being cooler than incandescent lights and much more resistant to breakage. LEDs don’t have any flickering issues that can happen with fluorescent.
Ultimately, the efficiency, long life, and functionalities of T8 LEDs make them worthy of potentially replacing standard T8 fluorescent tubes
-Longevity
Today’s LED tubes last much longer than traditional fluorescent tubes. Current LED specification measurements state our LEDs can endure over 70,000 hours of testing. This means an LED tube will pay for itself over time. Many LED lighting companies are offering a 10-year end-to-end standard warranty on most of their LED tubes.
-Efficiency
On average, electrical consumption cost is 17% of a company’s budget. LED tube lighting can cut costs down drastically with its efficiency. For example, our newest T8 Commercial LED Tube requires 20 watts (W) and outputs 2600 lumens (lm), translating into about 120 lumens per watt (lm/w)! That is 50% higher than the traditional fluorescent lamps
-Color Rendering
The most drastic difference you will notice with an LED tube light is how closely it resembles natural sunlight. This is because all spectrums of color are represented in the LED chips, producing the brightest white. In addition, every single color output is replicated seamlessly. The right LED fluorescent tube lighting can help improve focus, productivity, and overall health and wellness.
-Easy maintenance
In principle, anyone can replace a LED fluorescent bulbs. In the case of products based on the Retro-Fit installation approach, LED fluorescent light tubes contain all the electronics required, which means that in the event of LED tube failure, replacement or even fluorescent tube reinstallation is simple.
-Environmental friendly
Traditional T5HO and T8 fluorescent lamp contains large amount of mercury vapor which will do harm to the environment if the lamp is broken up and the vapor volatilize into the atmosphere. On the contrary, LED fluorescent tube does not contain mercury or lead, doing no harm to the environment. So, LED fluorescent bulbs products are recognized to be the green lighting lamps
-Free of ultraviolet radiation
Traditional fluorescent lamps will generate ultraviolet radiation, thus will attract mosquitoes to fly around the lamps. LED fluorescent lamp doesn’t have this disadvantage, thus the indoor space will become cleaner and safe.
-Rigid and safe
LED fluorescent tube lamp body is made by epoxy resin instead of glasses like other traditional lamps. So it is more rigid and safe. Even if falling to the floor, T8 LED tube will not be broken easily. Users can set their heart at rest when using LED lamps.
-Dimmable&Controls
Fluorescents have always been difficult to dim and some aren’t dimmable at all. Today’s LEDs dim easily. LED G13 T8 light work seamlessly with occupancy sensors and other control systems. Not so for fluorescents.
Chapter 3: LED fluorescent tube types
-BY Tube size:
There are T5, T8 and T12 LED fluorescent bulbs.
Do you know the mean of the T? The T stands “tubular” and the diameter of the bulb in eighths of an inch, so “T8” represents a tube of 8/8ths of an inch, or 1 inch. So T5 represents a tube of 5/8 inch and T12 represents a tube of 12×1/8 inch.

-BY base types
There are single pin tubes and bi-pin tubes.

Single Pin

Bi-pins(FA8)
-BY working theory
TYPE A LED tube-Ballast Compatible LED tube
Type-A LED tubes Commonly designed “UL Type A”, this type LED tube have internal drivers which allow the tube to operate directly from existing linear fluorescent ballasts.BUT the Type A LED tube are not compatible with all existing ballasts. They are the most straightforward to implement, since it does not require rewiring the fluorescent fixture.
Type-A LED fluorescent lamp is a fast and easy way to upgrade your existing lighting and can make a significant impact on energy savings. Without rewiring or need for an electrician, anyone can simply remove fluorescent tubes and replace it with Type-A LED tubes.
Sometimes the Type A LED tube are referred to as plug and play LED tubes light
Type A LED tube advantages
Type A LED fluorescent tube light Disadvantages
However, with these benefits come some limitations. The longevity of a UL Type A system is dependent not only on the LED tube, but on the linear fluorescent ballast, which could result in additional maintenance costs within the lifetime of the solution. Ballast compatibility will vary by manufacturer and must be checked prior to install.
TYPE B LED tube-Internal Driver-Ballast Bypass
Like the Type-A LED tubes, Type-B LED tubes operate with an internal driver as well. But, the integrated internal driver in Type B LED tube lamps is powered directly by the line voltage supplied to the existing fixture.
All LED bulbs lamp use drivers that power the LEDs. They perform the function of converting AC power from the utility company into DC power. LED Lights run on DC power. Many LED Tube manufacturers incorporate the drivers inside the tubes. These tubes are call Type “B” LED Tubes.
The Type B LED Tube have two power method. Single Ended Power and Double Ended Power. Single Ended Power (SEP) tubes take power at only one end of the tube. It uses an unshunted tombstone to power it. The other end is just a dummy end which is safe to touch by hand during the installation. On the power end, there are two pins. One pin takes line power, the other pin take neutral.
The double-ended power LED tube requires the shunted tombstone. Double Ended Powered (DEP) means you send power to each end. This is similar to how fluorescent tubes run. In the case of LED Tubes, you send line to one end and neutral to the other end. Typically it does not matter what end is wired to line or neutral, but check with the manufacturer’s instructions to make sure.
Type B LED tube advantages
Type B LED sing ended bulb and LED double ended bulb Disadvantages
Installation of a UL Type B system requires electrical modification of the existing fixture to connect the tubes to the power supply. This is more complicated than simply replacing lamps, and great care must to taken to follow installation instructions, as wiring may vary across different manufacturers’ Type B solutions.
Single-ended Power VS Double-ended Power LED tubes wiring
TYPE C LED tube
TYPE-C LED TUBES(External Driver)
An external driver tube is the least common tube available on the market today, but it is the one that most closely resembles a fluorescent tube installation. A fluorescent tube consists of tubes and an external ballast. The type C LED tubes operates with a remote driver that powers the LED linear tube, rather than an integrated driver.
In this installation, the fluorescent ballast is removed and the driver is installed in the ballast location. All the wires are connected the same, with DC + going to one end and DC – going to the other end.
Type-C LED tubes offer excellent system efficiency and overall performance. Most Type-C LED tubes are dimmable and are the best type of tube to use with most controls.
Type C LED tube advantages
TYPE A+B LED diffuser tube(Hybrid)
Also referred to as “Type A+B” or Hybrid LED tube. There are some sellers who recognize the opportunity to provide LED tube lights that will work with both existing fluorescent ballast or operate without the ballast. This has resulted in a new category being introduced, which is the “hybrid” tube light. They work with both T8 electronic ballasts and can be wired directly. With this tube install, there is flexibility when a ballast fails or when a facility has both T12 and T8 that require both types of wiring. This would be considered in most cases to be a “one-size-fits-all” approach and proves to be quite handy. This is an excellent choice for those installations that want to use the fast installation method using the ballasts but have a backup plan if the ballast is not compatible. Some of the more clever designs allow the tube to be both SEP or DEP.
Should I choose the TYPE-A, TYPE-B or TYPE C LED integrated tube Light?
To determine the best solution, one must consider the initial installation cost, long term maintenance implications, intended application, and overall which benefits are most desired:
• Type A without ballast replacement offers an easy plug & play solution with the lowest initial cost.
• Type B is the simplest total system, eliminating compatibility issues, but also has the highest installation cost.
• Type C has a higher upfront cost but is the best future-proofing solution as it offers the ability to work with controls that are currently in place or are installed at a later time.
Chapter 4: LED fluorescent tube lights applications
The global LED tube light market exhibited double-digit growth during 2014-2019. A light-emitting diode (LED) tube light currently represents one of the most energy-efficient type of linear tube lighting. Due to their high energy efficiency and longer life, these LED fluorescent light are rapidly replacing fluorescent tube lights that are often used in commercial and residential buildings. Unlike fluorescent tubes (which tend to burn out faster when integrated with occupancy sensors and other controls), LED tube lights work perfectly with control systems. They have a longer life span of 50,000 to 100,000 hours, which is 55-75 times more than their traditional counterparts. These eco-friendly lights offer maximum light output along with energy savings and come in a wide array of color temperatures. On account of their unique solid-state design, LED tube lights are lightweight, extremely durable, and require virtually no maintenance or warm up time. Besides this, they are highly resistant to temperature alterations and can remain stable even in extremely cold conditions.
With the inflating prices of electricity around the world, consumers are shifting from compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) to LED tube lights. This is further supported by awareness campaigns and policies for energy conservation and environmental protection by governments in various countries. On the other hand, manufacturers are coming up with different LED lighting products and investing in marketing through newspapers and televisions which is increasing product awareness among consumers. Further, strong demand for LED tube lights is emerging from the corporate sector as they offer better ambiance lighting, enhanced controls and reduced maintenance costs. They are also widely being used in automotive, general lighting, mobile devices, signal and signage, healthcare, forensic, academics and street lighting which is stimulating the market growth. Looking forward, IMARC Group expects the global LED tube light market to continue its strong growth during the next five years..
The global LED tube lights market was valued at US$ 3,705.0 Mn in 2017 and is expected to cross US$ 13,000.0 Mn by 2026, at a CAGR of 15.2% during the forecast from 2018 to 2026. Millions of LED tube lights have been installed globally ever since the first time it was introduced a few years back. Though in that relatively short period of time, the LED tube lights have undergone several changes and surely we can count on more changes ahead. On account of its high energy efficiency, LED lights have been increasingly finding applications on a large scale in offices, commercial developments, and industrial operations in order to attain more cost-savings. The fact that LED tube lights can be used at all locations, except for the places where both downward and upward lighting is required, makes its adoption even higher. Currently, LED tube lights find applications across premises where the lights are required to be placed on a lot. In such instances, the low power consumption of LED tube lights offset the more expensive acquisition price. Typical applications of LED tube lights include public premises, industrial production premises, warehouses, parking garage, stores and refrigeration rooms/equipment.

Chapter 6: LED tube light questions
Do I need to use a ballast with T8 LED tube lamps?
This depends on the LED tube lamp you buy. Please review Chapter 3, it explained which LED tube lamp can work well with the ballast which can’t work in the ballast fixture
What’s the color temperatures should I choose in LED tubes?
This depends on the application you will use the LED tubes. The 6000k daylight LED tube is typical used in hospitals, graphics arts and manufacturing. The 4000K cool white LED tube is typical used in office, retails stores, supermarket and showrooms. The 3000K warm white LED tube is often used in residential lighting, hospitality, restaurants and hotel lobbies.
What should I consider before buying the LED tubes?
#1)Consider the Lumens and not watts
In opposition to normal conviction, wattage isn’t an indicator of brightness. For conventional radiant models, there is a connection between the watts drawn and the brightness, yet for LEDs, watts is not an ideal indicator
#2)Choosing the correct shading
Knobs show an amazing shading range, from purple to red, to a range of whites and yellows. For home, from Syska’s line, warm white and delicate white will create a somewhat yellow tint. The shading temperatures are measured in a unit called Kelvin (K).
#3)Dimmable LEDs
The correct amount of light in a room offers an appropriate atmosphere. Most dimmers work by removing the measure of power sent to the knob, and the less power that is drawn, the dimmer the globule. As you are aware, this won’t have a similar impact on an LED knob, so you’ll need to purchase dimmable LEDs.
#4)Not all LEDs are made equivalent
LEDs have been gaining importance as they give a similar level of brightness as traditional lights while utilizing less power. You may have effectively seen, not all LED knobs are made equivalent. There are many brands of LED available that don’t satisfy their guarantees or legitimately cling to industry models. Consequently, it’s best to go with a trusted manufacturer.
Do LED tubes ligt need starters?
The newest LED tube doesn’t need a starter, but the tube light fitting does to complete the electrical circuit, if you open the replacement starter that you get with an LED tube you would find just a piece of ordinary wire soldered between the two contacts of the starter. The starter was used with magnetic ballast before but now most countries used the electronic ballast for many years.
Do I need a ballast bypass for LED tube light retrofit installations
The ballast is a component in a fluorescent fixture that regulates electrical currents and provides the proper amount of energy to the fluorescent lights. LED tube technology does not require a ballast to regulate the amount of energy flowing to the lights. LED’s require less energy and can be sensitive to excess energy. Some of the LED tubes still work well with the fluorescent ballast but there is no reason to add the new ballast in LED tube lighting which will brings the cost higher.
What is the lifetime of the LED tube light?
LED tube light have a general life expectancy of 50 000-10 0000 hrs depends on how you use it and where you use it.
